To everyone out in the streets this Pride weekend protesting the murder of Banko Brown, a Black Trans Man, by a Walgreens security guard, we are with you. We will support you if you get arrested, bail you out of jail, and stand with you as you fight your case.
We stand in solidarity with other mutual aid collectives – we know this is an effective and vital part of abolishing prisons and police. We tear down their monuments and build networks of care and solidarity in their place. From the atrocities on Palestinians committed by the Israeli Occupying Forces in partnership with the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange GILEE program, the murder of the Weelaunee Forest defender, Tortuguita, and the attack on the Atlanta Solidarity Fund, they will learn by our rage from the Bay to ATL to Palestine there will be NO COP CITY ANYWHERE! The Prison and Military Industrial Complexes work together, internationally, and across so-called “state lines” to erect and maintain their borders with fear mongering and violence. With the development of Cop City they will have an urban warfare training facility to suppress our movements – this cannot happen. We will not let the lies of Atlanta’s Cop City “local issue” propaganda of outside agitators weaken our united front against Cop City. We do not recognize their borders from ICE to the IDF.
We reject the government and corporate co-opting of radical traditions like Pride month and Juneteenth, who satiate their greed on the backs of Black and Trans/queer suffering. We stand in solidarity with all resistors fighting racists and fascists terrorizing our communities. We will not allow the visibility of gender variance to be met with violence from right wing extremists by showing up in support of Trans and queer spaces. We see what is happening at drag queen story hours across the country, what happened when NYPD targeted and kettled the Black Trans Revolution March in NYC, and at WeHo Pride where members of Resistance Coalition LA were handing out mutual aid supplies, only to be targeted and arrested by permitted Pride police. There is no place for cops at Pride!
Pride is not permitted, it is demanded!
2023 has been a record year with upwards of 541 anti 2sLGBTQ bills across the country. These bills threaten and restrict gender affirming care, ban bathroom access, ban books, and refuse to recognize the very existence of transness. Pride’s historical roots as a riot against police brutality during the Stonewall Uprisings of 1969 is often expressed by the popular slogan “Pride was a riot!” We, The Bay Area Anti-Repression Committee exist for those continuing the struggle today.
2023 is giving PRIDE IS A RIOT!
